AA Attacks Ohn Kyi Kyun Naval Base Near Dhanyawadi Base in Kyaukphyu

Min Shin Saw, Narinjara News, 20 October 2024

The main naval base in Arakan State, Kyaukphyu Dhanyawadi, is not far from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base, which was the target of an artillery strike yesterday by the Arakan Army (AA).

The distance between the Kyaukphyu Dhanyawadi navy base and the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base is around 4 nautical miles.

A local said, "We heard two loud explosions coming from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval base yesterday around 2:00 pm." It was very noisy. Ohn Kyi Kyun also made small weapons fire audible to us. We fled because we believed there to be violence."

The homeowner went on to say that people from neighboring villages such as Taung Shay, Ka Nyin Taw, and Wah Taung fled in terror as a result of the artillery shell explosions and small weapons fire.

The nearby people have been experiencing problems from the Ohn Kyi Kyun naval facility, which is part of the Kyaukphyu Dhanyawadi military base.

Fishing boats are regularly targeted by small weapons fire from the naval facility. Residents are stopped and subjected to various forms of harassment when they take a boat from their villages to Kyaukphyu Town. The homeowner continued, "This naval facility mostly blocks access to the canal between Kyaukphyu Town and the rural districts.

Military tensions continue even though there hasn't been any major combat between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta forces in Kyaukphyu Town.

There are currently no known information about the attack on the Ohn Kyi Kyun fleet.
