The ArakanArmy (AA) has handed over five Bangladeshi fishermen, who were detained forillegally fishing at Naf river in the Arakan side, to the Bangladeshiauthorities.
They weredetained from the river near Shah Porir island in Teknaf on Tuesday.
Accordingto Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, commander of Teknaf 2 Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) battalion, the AA returned back the Bangladeshi fishermen to them.
The BGBpersonnel transported them to Jaliapara jetty in Teknaf municipality at around1:30 pm on Wednesday.
Thereturned fishermen include Md Alam (22), Md Rasel Mia (23), Md Saiful Mia(17), Borhan Uddin (19) and Md Rashed (24), who all hail from Shah Poririsland.
Amid theongoing conflicts in Myanmar, certain areas are now under the control of theAA, whose representatives picked up the fishermen.
MohiuddinAhmed also added that the returning process of their fishermen to theirrespective families is underway.
"Theywere detained from the Myanmar side. We contacted the AA and successfullysecured their custody. Our government will communicate with Myanmar BorderGuard (BGP), AA or any relevant parties for the benefit of our people,"stated Mohiuddin Ahmed during a press conference.
