Four Russian Warships Arrive in Myanmar for Naval Exercises with Military Junta

Narinjara News, 21 October 2024

According to reports from junta-owned newspapers, four warships from the Russian Pacific Fleet have arrived in Myanmar to take part in military drills with the junta's navy.

The tanker Pechenga and the corvettes Gromky, Rezky, and Tsydenzhapov are among the approaching ships.

As part of the ongoing reciprocal visits between the two nations, this landing signifies the second bilateral naval exercise between Russia and Myanmar.

The junta had been holding a live-fire naval drill in the northern Andaman Sea since October 20 when the warships arrived.

Ten nautical miles west of KaBuZar Island, which is situated 80 miles west of Myeik Town, and within 60 nautical miles, 10 miles north of the Yetagun gas field, are the locations of this five-day exercise.

Some observers speculate that since the Russian warships are arriving at the same time as the ongoing naval drill in the Andaman Sea, they might take part in it as well.

A naval team from the Russian Pacific Fleet will see some of Yangon's most well-known locations while they are there. As announced by the junta, they would also participate in bilateral sporting events and carry out Harbor Phase drills.

Along with officers and other staff, the team leader of the Russian vessels is Captain 1st Rank Antsiferov Alexey Vitalievich of the Russian Pacific Fleet.
