Two
Myanmar nationals were arrested in Teknaf Township of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh
along with gold ornaments and bars weighing 10.5 kilograms on 16
September, reported Teknaf Today, a Bengali newspaper.
Those
arrested are identified as Mohammad Hafizur Rahman (28) and Mohammad Anwar
(30), both of whom hail from Soudapara in Maungdaw Tiwnship.
The
authorities also seized approximately Bangladeshi Taka 5 lakh, Kyats 2.5 lakh
and 10 mobile phones.
They were arrested after a search operation at Aliabad area in southwestern part of Teknaf border outpost following an intelligence report of narcotics smugglers entering the area.
Earlier
on 11 August, two Muslim Myanmar nationals namely Yeahia Khan (45)
and Anwar Sadek (40) were arrested in Teknaf Township while trying to
cross the international border. They were carrying 29 kilograms of gold items.
Both
men, hailed from Shwe Zar ward in Maungdaw township, were arrested as they
tried to flee Myanmar due to the ongoing gun fighting. Bangladeshi authorities
assume the market value of the seized gold items as Taka 28.75 crore.
The
residents stated that they owned gold shops in Maungdaw and tried to flee
to Bangladesh.
