From 1 January to 12 September
2024, the junta forces killed 311 people in Arakan State, reported the
Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on Thursday.
Out of 1,362
people killed across Myanmar, 311 hailed from Arakan State, added the AAPP
report.
Among the
311 deceased, 108 were killed by the junta’s airstrikes and 99 killed by
the junta’s artillery strikes.
Other
causes of death include massacres, such as the incident at Byine Phyu village
in Sittwe, as investigated by Narinjara News.
On 8
September at 6:50 and 6:55 pm, the junta soldiers conducted two
airstrikes on Shin Ywar village under Pauktaw township, where the Arakan
Army (AA) was providing medical care to the prisoners of war and inmates. The
airstrikes killed 17 people and injured 10 others, asserted the AAPP.
Among those
killed were U Saw Than Maung, Ma Hla Saw Khin, U Saw Nyi Nyi (also known as
Taung Min), U Kyaw Thar Maung, Ko Bhone Myat Paing, Ko Maung Thein Tun (also
known as Nga Mel Khaung), U Thein Tun Aung, U Kyaw Win Maung, 14-year-old Maung
Wai Yan Phyo, and 17-year-old Maung Soe Min Aung. There were 7 prisoners of war
also.
Identities
of 451 women and 911 men were verified among the total of 1,362 people killed
across the country.
