India is reportedly willing to provide electricity to Paletwa in Chin State andSittwe in Arakan State, said a Mizoram-based Chin media outlet Khonumthung.
Citing a statement from the Mizoram government'sinformation department, Khonumthung reported that India’s foreign ministryofficial B. Shyam made this announcement during a meeting with Mizoram's power& electricity minister F Rodingliana on 12 September in Aizawl.
B. Shyam, joint secretary of India’s external affairsministry stated during his visit to Mizoram that New is interested in providingelectricity to both Paletwa and Sittwe. He also emphasized on the neededcooperation from the Mizoram government.
He and Mizoram minister Rodingliana also discussed trade promotions withMyanmar and Bangladesh.
They also reviewed the status of Kaladan Multi-ModalTransit Transport project and explored ways to address its challenges anddifficulties.
India's willingness to provide electricity is seen as recognition for theArakan Army (AA), which controls a large area of Arakan State and alsoPaletwa town.
