68 Myanmar border guard police personnel flee to Bangladesh

 At least 68 Myanmar border guard police personnel, 15 out of them seriouslyinjured, fled to Bangladesh along with their weapons to save their lives amidthe ongoing battle against the Arakan Army (AA) fighters, reported a number ofBangladeshi media outlets.

 

Theyentered Bangladesh at around 10 am on Monday after fleeing an AA attack on Taung Pyo border guard camp in northern Maungdaw township of RakhineState.

 

Theirweapons were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and currently thoseare being held at Naikhongchhari in Bandarban district, said Shariful Islam,the BGB  public relations officer. However, 15 individuals who sustainedinjuries are receiving treatment at MSF hospital. Two soldiers were shifted toCox's Bazar hospital as they sustained serious injuries.

 

In themidst of the ongoing conflicts between the junta forces and AA fighters, many  bullets and mortar shells were fired causing injuries to threeBangladeshi nationals.

 

Followingthe AA fighters' attack on Taung Pyo border guard camp at 3 am on 4 February,the conflict persisted throughout the day. Finally the border guard camp in Taung Pyo town had gone to the AA’s control.
