2 Myanmar nationals arrested in Bangladesh with 29 kilograms of gold

Two Myanmar nationals, who illegally entered Bangladesh recently, were arrested at Teknaf border in Cox's Bazar district while carrying 29 kilograms of gold, said Bangladeshi media reports.

 

Both the  individuals, hailing from Shwe Zar ward in Maungdaw town, were arrested while crossing the international border. During inspection, the Bangla authorities found 29 kilograms of gold worth Bangladeshi Taka 28.75 crore and 26,010 Taka in cash.


The arrested individuals have been identified as Yeahia Khan (45 years old) and Anwar Sadek (40).

 

They fled from Myanmar due to the ongoing conflicts and both were detained by the Teknaf-based Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-2 from a village near Nhila town along with the brokers.


One of the arrested individuals owns three gold shops in Maungdaw.

 

Both tried to escape to Bangladesh with an aim to avoid the gun fighting in Maungdaw.
