TwoMyanmar nationals were arrested in Teknaf Township of Cox's Bazar in Bangladeshalong with gold ornaments and bars weighing 10.5 kilograms on 16September, reported Teknaf Today, a Bengali newspaper.
Thosearrested are identified as Mohammad Hafizur Rahman (28) and Mohammad Anwar(30), both of whom hail from Soudapara in Maungdaw Tiwnship.
Theauthorities also seized approximately Bangladeshi Taka 5 lakh, Kyats 2.5 lakhand 10 mobile phones.
Theywere arrested after a search operation at Aliabad area in southwestern partof Teknaf border outpost following an intelligence report of narcoticssmugglers entering the area.
Earlieron 11 August, two Muslim Myanmar nationals namely Yeahia Khan (45)and Anwar Sadek (40) were arrested in Teknaf Township while trying tocross the international border. They were carrying 29 kilograms of gold items.
Bothmen, hailed from Shwe Zar ward in Maungdaw township, were arrested as theytried to flee Myanmar due to the ongoing gun fighting. Bangladeshi authoritiesassume the market value of the seized gold items as Taka 28.75 crore.
Theresidents stated that they owned gold shops in Maungdaw and tried to fleeto Bangladesh.
