On Wednesday at around 11:21 am, over 30 soldiers
from the junta's number 48 tactical operation command entered Mupan district in
Kokang special region-1, where the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army
(MNDAA), an ethnic Kokang armed group, was stationed, in two columns.
Subsequently, they launched a surprise attack, leading to the loss of one armed
fighter.
On 16 January, the military
forces breached the Haigeng Agreement for the first time. The recent incident
marks the second time violation of the ceasefire agreement.
The statement of Three Brotherhood Alliance also
mentioned that the junta forces, positioned in Namtum village under
Lashio township, within the 6th brigade region of Ta'ang State, fired 18
artillery shells at a border bridge on the Hsenwi side by 11:20 am.
The junta forces also
carried out seven airstrikes using jet fighters, three with Mi-35 helicopters
and eleven with Y-12s in Namhpatkar village under Kutkai township. A
total of 101 bombs were dropped, along with three 500-pound units, claimed the statement.
It emphasized that the
junta’s blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement not only showed their
disregard to the initiative but also insulted the efforts taken up by Beijing.
After signing the Haigeng
Agreement on 11 January, the military junta has now violated its terms.
