Themilitary junta carried out airstrikes on two monasteries and a police stationin Kan Htaung Gyi town under Myebon township of Arakan State,killing two civilians including 11 year old girl and injuring seven others on the Sabbath day.
Thedeceased includes a man and a woman, while the injured were seven who wereobserving the Sabbath.
The juntaforces carried out two airstrikes using a fighter jet at around 4 pm on 25September.
“Eachairstrike involved dropping two bombs. With two rounds of airstrikes, a totalof four bombs were released,” said a source.
One bombstruck near the northern monastery in Ah Lel Pine ward, one near Laywadimonastery on the outskirts of the town and two near the police station.
“A man whoobserved the Sabbath at the northern monastery lost his arm, while another atthe Laywadi monastery lost his leg,” added the source.
Moredetails about the casualties are still awaited, as communication with KanHtaung Gyi becomes difficult because of the airstrikes.
Someresidential buildings were also damaged in the airstrikes.
Kan HtaungGyi is a sub-town which is under the control of the Arakan Army.
“Attackinga peaceful town like this one is intended to instill fear among people anddisrupt stability in the area,” commented U Pe Than, an Arakanesepolitical analyst.
