Junta aeroplane slides sideways while landing in Mizoram’s Lengpui airport

A junta air force plane, sent to pick up the soldiers who fled to Mizoram of northeast India, skidded off the runway at Lengpui airport before it reached the terminal, reported by local news agency.

 

Local residents said that the plane slided from the runway at around 10:30 this morning.

 

"The plane skidded off the runway while landing at Lengpui airport. The condition of the injured is yet to be known," said a resident from  Aizawl.




There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that some individuals on board have lost their lives due to the incident.


On 17 January, a total of 276 junta soldiers, comprising 36 officers, fled to Mizoram after facing defeat in a battles against the Arakan Army (AA) in Paletwa township of Chin State.

 

Among them, 184 were already airlifted by a junta air force plane from Lengpui airport on 22 January and the aircraft incident took place when the second batch was about to be shifted to Sittwe.
