The Arakan Army (AA) has captured the Khamaungwa camp in Paletwa township of Chin State, which is close to the Bangladesh border.

At 11:30 pm on Tuesday, Three Brotherhood Alliance issued a statement confirming the successful capture of the camp.

"On 2 January 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) has successfully captured the Khamaungwa camp in the Paletwa region," said the statement.

Khamaungwa camp, situated near Bandarban district of Bangladesh, served as an important military stronghold for the Burmese army.

According to a source affiliated with the armed resistance, following the capture of the camp, the AA has now gained control over the Indian and Bangladesh border areas covering from the upper part of Taung Pyo in the north of Maungdaw township.

Currently, the AA has been launching attacks on remaining military strongholds including  Chin Let Wa camp, Mee Wa tactical operation command base and point-313 hill-based camp in Paletwa.

The military analysts suggest that if these camps fall,  the 289th battalion based in Paletwa would soon face the defeat.

The statement also added that the AA intends to launch attacks on both large & small camps, as well as those few remaining camps to mark their complete capture.

The AA members have been attacking the junta's Taung Shay mountain tactical operation command base near Tinma village under Kyauktaw township. The conflict remained highly intense on 2 January.

The AA has taken control of numerous small outposts, prompting the junta forces to vigorously defend those. Now  the junta soldiers are  employing two jet fighters for airstrikes, while the battalions
stationed in Kyauktaw have been  utilizing the multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Tinma Taung Shay mountain tactical operation command base, situated between Paletwa and Kyauktaw townships, serves as a crucial defensive position for the Kyauktaw-based 9th military operations command (MOC-9). Should this base falls it would put the Kyauktaw MOC-9 in a
vulnerable position.

Taung Shay mountain tactical operation command base is infamous for being the site where 20 innocent civilians from Tinma village were abducted in front of their families and later killed in the the base in March 2020. Even their bodies were concealed on the mountain.

The AA has successfully captured crucial tactical operation command bases (along the western border of Myanmar) including Tarunaing, Nonebu, Khawea, Myeik Wa military camps, point-377 hill-based camp, and recently seized Khamaungwa camp on the international border.

Furthermore, the AA has urged the junta-affiliated troops to seek refuge in the ‘People's Embrace’ to avoid any casualties.
