Prominent monk Mrauk-U Sayadaw Ashin Warya Mainda from
Arakan State donated Kyat 100 million for the affected families in the recent
Myanmar flood.
According to a statement on Sayadaw's facebook page
posted on 13 September, the donation was organized and led by his disciples
namely U Zawana from Mandalay, U Uttara Wuntha from Yangon with a few others.
Sayadaw and his disciples began organizing the
donation effort from Mandalay and started distributing aid to flood
victims in Taungoo, Yedashe and Htantabin townships.
Currently, Mrauk-U Sayadaw is residing temporarily in the United States. The donors from different parts of the world, including the United States, are contributing to the flood relief initiative.
Typhoon Yagi in the South China Sea caused heavy
rainfalls in Myanmar from 11 September, leading to floods and landslides in
different regions. Affected areas include Magway region, Mandalay region,
Naypyidaw, Bago region, Mon State, Kayah State, Karen State, Shan State and
Ayeyarwady region, resulting in the death of hundred people.
The military regime stated recently that the disaster
recorded 226 deaths with injuries to 14 and 77 individuals went missing. It
also noted that 7,290 houses and 78,000 families were affected. Over 320,000
people were evacuated nationwide. The rescue workers suggested that the actual
casualties and damage may be higher.
More than 300,000 people across the country are
struggling to recover from the natural disaster and they need food and
medicines urgently.
