An Arakanese fisherman working in Thailand won a grand
prize of Baht 6 million in the Thai government's lottery draw on 16 September.
The winner is a 42-year-old man from
Kyaukphyu township of Arakan State and it was confirmed by Ko Ye Min,
head of Myanmar Humanitarian Action Center (MHAC)-which assists Myanmar migrant
workers in Thailand.
“The Thai lottery usually draws at 4 pm
in local time. Before 3 pm, a vendor came to sell lottery tickets to him. He
bought three tickets and gave one to a friend with an agreement to split
the prize if they won. He kept the other two tickets with him and won as well,”
said Ko Ye Min.
His lottery ticket number was 608662. Ko Ye Min added
that the winner had already collected the prize money with the help of the MHAC
on 17 September.
The winner plans to use the amount to start a business and
also support the Arakan revolution.
"He said he will run a business and continue to
support the Arakan revolution. He is currently involved with these
initiatives," added Ko Ye Min.
The winning Arakanese national has been working
in the Thai fishing industry for over 20 years and currently he owns a fishing
boat.
