The Embassy of the United Statesin Yangon announced that Washington will provide assistance to those affectedby Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar.
“Working through theUS Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States continues toprovide critical humanitarian assistance to affected and vulnerable communitiesthroughout the country in the aftermath of severe flooding and destructioncaused by Typhoon Yagi,” said a statement.
It also urged localauthorities to ensure humanitarian access to the most affected communities, sothey can receive clean water, sanitation, hygiene supplies and other essentialrelief items, including those funded by the international community.
Additionally, the embassy’sstatement noted that the United States will continue to assist those affectedby Typhoon Yagi in the coming days.
TyphoonYagi caused flash floods in several regions and States of Myanmar during thesecond week of September and it resulted in the death of 268 individualsand affecting over 600,000 residents.
Theflood victims in the mainland are getting support from the rescuers, but those in Arakan State are yet to receive any assistance.
