The Embassy of the United States
in Yangon announced that Washington will provide assistance to those affected
by Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar.
“Working through the
US Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States continues to
provide critical humanitarian assistance to affected and vulnerable communities
throughout the country in the aftermath of severe flooding and destruction
caused by Typhoon Yagi,” said a statement.
It also urged local
authorities to ensure humanitarian access to the most affected communities, so
they can receive clean water, sanitation, hygiene supplies and other essential
relief items, including those funded by the international community.
Additionally, the embassy’s
statement noted that the United States will continue to assist those affected
by Typhoon Yagi in the coming days.
Typhoon Yagi caused flash floods in several regions and States of Myanmar during the second week of September and it resulted in the death of 268 individuals and affecting over 600,000 residents.
The
flood victims in the mainland are getting support from the rescuers, but
those in Arakan State are yet to receive any assistance.
