The Arakan Army (AA) has successfully captured the 289th
infantry battalion based in Paletwa of Chin State.
According to a source close to the AA, the battalion led by
two division commanders, was captured on Thursday. A number of junta soldiers,
including the division commander and tactical operation commander were also
detained.
"The battalion, known for causing trouble by firing artillery
shells over the local population, has been captured. As a result, the soldiers
scattered and fled. The ongoing efforts involve clearing operations during
which the AA members successfully seized a large volume of weapons," added
the source
On 12 January, brigadier general Zin Myo Swe, the division
commander, was detained at Yae Ta Khon hill. Additionally, near Mee Chaung in
Sinli, 33 soldiers, including the tactical operation commander, were also
arrested by the AA members.
"Before reaching Mee Chaung, the AA captured 33
soldiers, including the tactical operation commander, who had escaped during
the battle. Furthermore, a previously missing division commander was also
apprehended at Yae Ta Khon hill,” reported the source.
A number of casualties were reported from the junta side and
many soldiers also fled.
Narinjara News tried to contact AA spokesman U Khaing Thukha for the
confirmation, however no response was received.
As of 2:30 pm on 13 January, the reports indicate that two airstrikes
were conducted by the junta's jet fighters in Paletwa, including Taung Shay
mountain tactical operation command base, which is currently controlled by the
AA.
