Taungkot police station officer arrested by the military council

The superintendent of police in the Taungup district town of Rakhine State was arrested by the military council on Tuesday.

The arrested officer Win Khaing, who worked as a station commander at the Taungpaukgyi checkpoint on Taungup-Rangoon road located at Arakan Roma, was taken away by the army personnel at around 9:30 am on 14 February, informed a source close to him.

“I heard that the matter is related to a smuggling vehicle. He was taken away by the security personnel. He was picked up from the mountain guard station during the duty hours,” added the source.

The reason behind his detention is not clear yet. A group of military council soldiers from the Taungup-based SKA division (5) headquarters were involved with the matter.

He has been working at Taungup township police station for more than a year.

It is understood that he was arrested because of a timber smuggling vehicle which was allowed to go by him in last January.
