The Arakan
Army (AA) has handed over five Bangladeshi fishermen, who were detained for
illegally fishing at Naf river in the Arakan side, to the Bangladeshi
authorities.
They were
detained from the river near Shah Porir island in Teknaf on Tuesday.
According
to Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, commander of Teknaf 2 Border Guard Bangladesh
(BGB) battalion, the AA returned back the Bangladeshi fishermen to them.
The BGB
personnel transported them to Jaliapara jetty in Teknaf municipality at around
1:30 pm on Wednesday.
The
returned fishermen include Md Alam (22), Md Rasel Mia (23), Md Saiful Mia
(17), Borhan Uddin (19) and Md Rashed (24), who all hail from Shah Porir
island.
Amid the
ongoing conflicts in Myanmar, certain areas are now under the control of the
AA, whose representatives picked up the fishermen.
Mohiuddin
Ahmed also added that the returning process of their fishermen to their
respective families is underway.
"They
were detained from the Myanmar side. We contacted the AA and successfully
secured their custody. Our government will communicate with Myanmar Border
Guard (BGP), AA or any relevant parties for the benefit of our people,"
stated Mohiuddin Ahmed during a press conference.
