AA captures 200 junta soldiers in Maungdaw, provides medical care

The Arakha Army (AA) captured over 200 junta soldiers along with their weapons in the battles of Inn Din and Myin Hlut in south Maungdaw and currently the AA medical teams are providing medical care to the injured soldiers and their family members.

"More than 200 soldiers were captured during the gun fighting against Inn Din 6th border guard police battalion and Myin Hlut 9th border guard police battalion,” said a local resident, adding that the number may be higher, who raised white flags and surrendered.

United League of Arakan (ULA/AA) spokesperson U Khaing Thukha at a press conference on 9 June announced that the ill soldiers who were captured during the conflict are being released.

"Several soldiers have been released. Some are officially reported while a few others were allowed to move concerning  their safety especially those in poor health. The decision to release them was based on health conditions as we cannot afford complete medical care to them,” added U Khaing Thukha.

 He also stated that the AA fighters have detained thousands of prisoners of war. Many of them surrendered and some defected. Now they are being offered necessary care in accordance to the international laws on war.

Earlier, hundreds of junta soldiers along with their family members from Mawyawadi 4th border guard police battalion and Myin Hlut 9th border guard police battalion fled by boats. But the landing barge anchored at sea prevented their approach. One of the such boats capsized near Ah Lel Than Kyaw while attempting to return to shore.

Between 2 and 8 June, the AA fighters captured many border guard camps in south Maungdaw including Kyauk Pan Du, Tower Hill, Inn Din 6th border guard police base, Gwa Sone Pyin, Myin Hlut 9th border guard police base, Mawyawadi 4th border guard police bases.
