The Arakandepartment of health issued a statement on 16 August, urgently calling formedical assistance in Maungdaw township, which is now under the control ofArakan Army (AA). The statement reported that five people had already died fromdiarrhea caused by contaminated drinking water.
Thestatement also added that the ongoing conflict and recent wave of floods in theArakan region created an urgent need for medical supplies.
Displacedpersons in Maungdaw are now suffering from dysentery and diarrhea. So there isan urgent need for essential medicines to treat the patients.
The numberof displaced persons evacuated by the AA members reaches nearly 20,000 wherethe process still continues.
The ArakanPeople's Revolutionary Government is providing medical support to the commonpeople in the region using the available medicines, regardless of theirethnicity or religions. But due to the large number of affected people, thereemerges an urgent need for additional medical supplies.
They nowexpect urgent support from neighboring countries, international aidorganizations and civil society groups for the affected people.
