The Arakha Army (AA) captured Kyee Kan Pyin border
guard police headquarters, located about eight miles away from Maungdaw
township in Rakhine State on Friday morning. The junta's border guard officers
and soldiers fled in disorder after facing the AA offensive.
Many senior officers retreated to nearby Hla Phoe
Khaung number 10 border guard police battalion. The residents close to the
location reported that the soldiers took away important documents twice using
the helicopter.
"Kyee Kan Pyin and Hla Phoe Khaung bases have
been under siege by the AA fighters for a long time. The officers and soldiers
from Kyee Kan Pyin border guard police headquarters fled and those from Hla
Phoe Khaung used the helicopter to transport important documents at 12:30
and 4 pm,” said a local resident.
Around 400 border guard personnel, who fled in
disorder from Kyee Kan Pyin headquarters, positioned themselves along Hla Phoe
Khaung road.
"Those who fled from Kyee Kan Pyin could not be
accommodated in the camps. So they were stationed along Hla Phoe Khaung
road. They assembled with 50 to 60 personnel in a group,” added the resident.
"As there are many mountains behind the Kyee Kan
Pyin headquarters and the AA fighters attacked with artillery shells and
drones, the soldiers failed to resist the
offensive. Moreover, the morale of junta soldiers remains low," asserted
the resident.
Despite reports of the AA fighters capturing Maungdaw,
local residents stated that the situation is normal.
"Maungdaw is still peaceful. Both the district
and township police stations are functioning normally. The market and banks
remain open," stated the resident.
Now the junta has reinforced the number 5 border guard
police battalion in Myo Thu Gyi ward of Maungdaw.
Following the AA's capture of number 7 border guard
police battalion near Kyein Chaung village on 11 April, Kyee Kan Pyin border
guard police headquarters and Hla Phoe Khaung number 10 border guard police
battalion were besieged by the AA fighters.
