At least five people, including a local resident of
Bangladesh, were injured in an armed clash between ARSA and RSO rebels at
Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar district in southern part of
Bangladesh, to The Financial
Express in Dhaka.
According to a report of Dhaka Tribune media outlet,
the gunfire erupted throughout the day on 17 October in camp number 14 and 15,
resulting in injuries to many people, confrmed by Amir Jafar, commander
of APBN-8 (additional DIG) on Thursday.
The injured individuals include Mohammad Belal
(39) from Palangkhali (Ukhiya), Omar Faruk (30), from block D-7 in camp 15
(Jamtoli), Mohammad Yunus (25), from block B-3 in the same camp, Abdullah
(18), from block C-2 in camp 11 (Ukhiya) and Hamida (50) from the same camp.
The APBN official said that the clash, driven by
disputes, led to five people being shot. The injured individuals are currently
receiving treatment at MSF hospital in Kutupalong of Ukhiya.
Multiple sources suggest that the ARSA has been attempting
to reorganise in the camp since 5 August and frequently clashing with RSO for
the control.
The clash, which began on Thursday morning, saw both
sides using heavy weapons, causing panic among Rohingya residents and locals.
M Gafur Uddin, chairman of Palangkhali Union Parishad,
said the incident has left locals near the camp scared with many remaining at
home unless for any urgent cause They also informed the authorities about the
ongoing clashes.
Till date, many innocent refugees were killed in armed
clashes among rival groups, where the ARSA and RSO fight for their own
control in the refugee camps, but shockingly Bangladesh authorities have
not prevented those arm clashes in the refugee camps.
