Two Arakanese arrested with US made hand-grenades in Sittwe

The police Tuesday arrested  two Arakanese nationals along with few arms and ammunition in the State capital city of Sittwe.

According to a police officer from no 1 police station of Sittwe, the police found two US made hand-grenades and three rounds of explosives with the nationals.

“The hand-grenades were recovered from a machine boat harbored at jetty no 19 on Sat Ro Kya creek under Kathe ward of Sittwe, where an accused individual was hiding. A group of police personnel led by Inspector Aye Khin Maung was searching for the bombs on September 16 evening following secret information. The police on duty discovered the hand-grenades in a plastic bag,” said the police officer.

One boatman named Maung Gyi Yay from the machine boat was arrested by the police in the connection with recoveries. Following his confession, the police also arrested the boat worker (U Kyaw Tin ) from his residence.

U Kyaw Tin admitted that they got the hand-grenades from a fishing boat from Bangladesh two years back when the boat was floating on the seaside near to Burma, understandably after the machine of the fishing boat went out of order.

He also claimed that they kept the hand-grenades in his machine boat as a defense strategy in case of attacks from the enemies. Meanwhile, the police had registered a case under the explosive acts in Sittwe Myoma police station.
