Thandway, January 21: A single agitator demanding land rights in Thandway was detained by the police and later Ko Saw Wae was declared arrested.
The solo protester held a placard saying ‘Give back our lands’ and also ware a shirt with the same message to start the agitation at 1-45 pm of January 18.
Solo protester Ko Saw Wae also marched from the Hilton hotel point in Thandway. He was then picked up by the police on duty to be arrested later.
The agitator claimed that the local authority had grabbed a large area of farm land owned by the locals in Thandway. The government planned to constrict a hotel chain in the locality and hence it confiscated the agricultural lands.
Ko Saw Wae, who was arrested in earlier attempts too for his unique protest, demanded that the confiscated lands, near to Ngapali beach, should be given back to the villagers. The lands along the beach were confiscated by the Burma army.
However, the land at Sinkyat village that connects Ngapali beach was confiscated by the Chinese Crony, which has an affiliation with the high officials. The land at Kin Lake Island under Nyi Nyin village tract was confiscated by the intelligent bureau officials.
The land confiscator at Ngapali beach areas was none other than Major General Win Myint, a former commander of Western Command. The lands near to Zee Phyu Koon village were occupied by the officials for constructing big hotels. But nobody was allegedly paid compensations.
Ko Saw Wae argued that the occupied lands belonged to the villagers should be given back. After three hours of demonstrations, the single agitator was arrested by the police, though they did not say anything to Narinjara News, while contacted for the information.
