One village administrator commits suicide in strife town of Arakan

Kyauk Taw: One village administrator in a village of Kyauk Taw township committed suicide on Wednesday, said family members and police source.

A family member said U Maung Aye Tin, 45 , a village administrator of Taung Bwe village in Kyauk Taw Township, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a mango tree located near a pond in the village in the early morning.

The body was sent to Kyauk Taw Hospital morgue for an autopsy after being found.

Family members denied talking about the reason behind the suicide. However many villagers believe that U Maung Aye tin killed himself following obsessive interrogation by the Burmese army.

A Burmese army unit summoned him day in day out to interrogate him about recent violence that took place near his village on 25 October.

In the incident a half dozen of Arakanese people were killed and many injured by the Burmese army on a machine boat going on Kaladan River as the army thought they were attacking a Muslim village.

The village administrator left a wife and four children.
