AA imposes curfew in Buthidaung, Maungdaw

A curfew has been imposed by the Arakha Army  (AA) from 7 pm to 6 am starting on Friday. The AA announced it on 26 April after mentioning the  recent war that broke out in Buthidaung and Maungdaw localities.

It stated that the clashes between the fascist military council and the AA continue in the Arakha region where  Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Ann and Thandwe localities are primarily affected.

The AA fighters maintain their efforts to secure control over the military operation command centre (MOC- 15).

Amidst the fierce fighting and repeated defeats of the junta forces, the soldiers are now resorting to inciting communal conflicts among various communities in the region. They have exploited the differences among the communities in the religion and nationality fronts.

Moreover, the junta has been training Muslim extremists to rise against the AA fighters with an aim to create communal tensions. They are even arming Muslim groups to take advantage of the ongoing conflict situation.

Lately, the Muslim terrorists, either independently or  collaborating with the junta forces, have initiated a series of attacks against the AA fighters. They are also involved with various  criminal activities like theft & vandalism of non-Muslim properties. Thus they have poised a grave threat to the security of Arakha residents.

Disruptive activities like house burnings, atrocities  & threats to the civilians, etc become increasingly prevalent in Buthidaung and Maungdaw localities.

In response to these escalating threats, the  curfew has been imposed. The residents of both the localities are urged to strictly adhere to curfew rules until further notice. Non-compliance will result in appropriate disciplinary measures, added the AA statement. It also asked the residents to inform the nearest United League of Arakan (ULA) administrative office for necessary travel permissions.
