Clashes with Arakan Army rebels continue to erupt

Confrontations between the rebels belonged to banned Arakan Army (AA) and government security forces erupted during the Thingyan festival in the State of Arakan, a western province of Burma.

According to the information department  of the AA, the clashes took place at Aurama mountain region of Taw Phyar Chaung located between Rathe Taung township & Punna Gyun township and also at Natt Thaye of Yo Chaung located between Punna Gyun township & Kyouk Taw township of Arakan State.

A spokesperson of  Arakan Army Khaing Thu Kha, who is in charge of information department confirmed that the confrontations took place on 16 April and it was very serious developments.

“Yes, it was a serious encounter. But we are yet to have specific information about the clashes. As the government army personnel have been moved to the localities, we apprehend more such encounters,” added Khaing Thu Kha.

Though AA claimed that there were casualties in the government military side, the Narinjara News cannot confirm it at this moment.

The initial clashes between the government forces and Arakan Army rebels erupted in April 2015 and the  encounters continue with of course interruptions in Arakan for a year now.
