Angelina’s visit to Arakan postponed

The United Nation’s special  envoy Angelina Jolie’s visit to Arakan State has been postponed due to heavy rain & storm in western Burma (Myanmar).

Mentionable is that, the UN goodwill ambassador Angelina had a plan to visit Arakan on Thursday within her four day Myanmar visit that started on last Wednesday.  But her trip to western Burma province was postponed due to the storm Koman and heavy downpour in the entire Arakan coast, conformed a government official based in Rakhine State.

“She (Angelina Jolie) had some programs in Arakan Stat too. She was expected to visit some refugee camps belonged to Buddhist and Muslim inmates at Sittwe. Besides that she was supposed to meet government officials and few social activists,” added the official.

The entre Arakan is facing heavy flood due to the storm Koman which hit Arakan coast few days back. Even the airport at Sittwe was unable to operate because of its partial inundation. No plane has been allowed to land at the airport.

Angelina Jolie has however completed her  Kachin trip as the Arakan programme was cancelled on Thursday, informed a government source.

It also added that Angelina made her first official visit to Myanmar to discuss various issued including human rights, women’s affair and also the prevention of sexual violence against women in the conflict areas.

Meanwhile,  Angelina met Myanmar President  U Thein Sein with the Parliament speaker Pyithu Hluttaw and Union defence minister Lt-Gen Wai Lwin on his first day of Burma visit.

The UN goodwill ambassador had arrived in Myanmar from Cambodia, where she inspected various projects relating to health, education and nature conservation founded and maintained by Maddox Jolie-Pitt foundation since 2003.
