Union Minister U Aung Myo Min of the Ministry
of Human Rights from the National Unity Government (NUG) accepted the
Ludovic Trarieux International Human Rights Prize
The award ceremony was featured as a
special program on October 18, the last day of the IDHAE conference in Rome,
Italy, Minister U Aung Myo Min announced on social media on October 19.
"Despite knowing that the terrorist
military junta would unfairly imprison and punish them, she bravely defended
the legal rights of political prisoners, and for that she merits this human
rights prize. ‘No one has the right to judge without a hearing,’ she would
frequently say. True to her words, she did everything in her power to seek
justice for those wrongfully jailed," U Aung Myo Min wrote.
He declared his unwavering belief that he will be able to personally present the medal to Daw Ywet Nu Aung, its legitimate winner, once freedom, justice, human rights, and peace have all been restored.
“She might explain that this award is more for
the people of Myanmar than for herself if she could attend the ceremony and
speak, I firmly believe. In these trying times, when international attention is
particularly required for Myanmar and its people, she would thank for the
acknowledgment. She would draw attention to the horrifying mistreatment and
torture that more than 20,000 political prisoners—including herself—face while
being detained in different jails as a result of the terrorist regime's
brutality,” U Aung Myo Min continued, "She will gladly convey the bravery
and fortitude of the women who have taken part in the movement.”
Additionally, he underlined that she will
surely push the international community to demand the release of all
individuals who have been jailed, in addition to expressing worry for Myanmar's
predicament. She would demand that the terrorist military junta no longer
receive funding, jet fuel, or weapons exports and that war criminals be
prosecuted in accordance with international law. U Aung Myo Min also said that
she would support the creation of a new federal democracy that represents the
wishes of the people.
The Ludovic Trarieux International Human Rights
Prize for 2024 will go to human rights attorney Daw Ywet Nu Aung, who was
wrongfully jailed by the terrorist state. The European association of rights
attorneys, the Institut des droits de l'homme des avocats européens (IDHAE),
bestows this honor yearly.
Daw Ywet Nu Aung was wrongfully condemned to 15
years in prison with hard labor on December 28, 2022, for her assistance to
political prisoners who had been wrongfully detained and accused by the
terrorist dictatorship.
