Arakanese
calendarist Sayar U Aung Chit, who served as vice-chairman of the Myanmar
calendar advisory board, passed away on 5 October in Yangon. He was 91 years
old and breathed his last in Thingangyun hospital at 7:45 pm.
Sayar U
Aung Chit was widely recognized as the publisher of the esteemed annual
Danyawady Arakan calendar.
His
contributions to the community were beyond the calendar publishing as he was
also an executive of Myanmar traditional medicine practitioner association and
acknowledged as a senior literary scholar by the Myanmar writers association.
Additionally, he served as the patron of the Arakan magazine committee.
His
accomplishments included receiving Tan Khoe Sayar Tun lifetime achievement
award for literature and he was honored with the title of Sasana Dhaja Dhamma
Cariya.
His family informed the friends about his passing away and stated that they would provide further details regarding the cremation time and date.
His final departure
was grieved by the Arakanese community where many writers and social activists
expressed their condolences. They mourned the loss of Sayar U Aung Chit on
behalf of the Arakanese people living across the globe.
