Following the military council's declaration of yet another week-long ceasefire beginning on April 22, four women, among them an 11-year-old girl, were killed in an airstrike by junta forces.
A drone strike on Laek Khamaw village in Kyaukphyu Township on the morning of April 25 resulted in the deaths of Daw Thein Thein Aye (47), Daw Chaw Su (39), and Daw Chaw Su's daughter Ma May Thazin Khaing (11), as reported by a villager who witnessed the event.
At approximately 10:00 AM on April 25, a drone conducted five flyovers above the southwest area of Laek Khamaw village and released eight bombs.
The airstrike took the lives of Daw Thein Thein Aye, Daw Chaw Suna, and Ma May Thazin Khaing, who were working in a nearby winter crop field at the time.
A tractor and a car were similarly damaged.
Moreover, on April 24, at approximately 3:00 PM, a suicide drone struck Yenangtaung village in Kyaukphyu Township three times, resulting in the death of Daw Mayin Nu, a 60-year-old refugee from Kulaba village in Yenangtaung village, Kyaukphyu Township.
During the airstrike, a bomb detonated inside U Hla San's residence in Yenangtaung village, resulting in the immediate death of Daw Mayin Nu, who was seeking refuge there as an IDP, and injuring U Hla and another individual.
The military council announced a unilateral ceasefire for the first time from April 2 to 22, and again for another week starting from April 22, citing earthquake relief and recovery efforts, yet is breaking its own pledge by assaulting civilians.
Furthermore, the AA governs 51 out of the 54 village tracts in Kyaukphyu Township and is currently involved in intense combat with the military in and near Kyaukphyu.
Kyaukphyu is a major Chinese project that offers a substantial source of foreign revenue for the military council, prompting the junta forces to vigorously protect Kyaukphyu from being taken by the AA.
The AA has taken control of 14 out of the 17 townships in Rakhine State, with only Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung remaining. According to military analysts, of the three towns, the AA has significant potential to assault and seize Kyaukphyu soon.
