A leftover unexploded bomb detonated in Taungup Township, situated in the southern area of Rakhine State, resulting in the death of one individual.
The body has been identified as U Maung Thein (45) from Zedi Kwin Village, located in Taungup Township.
On April 24, at approximately 9 a.m., U Maung Thein and his son were clearing bushes in a mountain garden close to Aung Sai Tay Su (gathering huts), where the military council had been stationed before, when they discovered an unexploded bomb lodged between rocks and soil.
As U Maung Thein removed the bomb from the rocks, it detonated.
The blast is said to have split open U Maung Thein's head and severed his right arm, resulting in his immediate death. Nevertheless, his son fortunately survived the explosion.
On April 4, an explosion occurred in Yankhor village, Taungup Township, resulting in the death of one teenager and injuring another.
A local mentioned that the high frequency of explosions and casualties from munitions in Rakhine State results from the absence of awareness-raising organizations during the conflict.
“Individuals should likewise take action to stop children from engaging in any activities if they observe military gear. If they observe it themselves, they ought to notify the closest administrative body. I believe the government should incorporate these matters into military organization," he stated.
As per Narinjara's documentation, one civilian lost their life and 20 more sustained injuries due to an explosion involving an unexploded ordnance and a landmine in Rakhine State last March.
