In his New Year's speech today, April 17, 2025, the inaugural day of the 1387 lunar calendar, military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing again urged ethnic armed factions to reach an accord.
In spite of this plea for peace, the junta is breaching the temporary ceasefire and targeting civilian areas, which is causing ethnic armed groups to lose faith in his invitation to engage in peace discussions, stated veteran Rakhine politician U Pe Than.
Military leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that peace and stability are essential for the nation's development and that there are ongoing efforts to attain lasting and authentic peace.
He stated that our government has also extended an invitation and proposed to address political issues through diplomatic methods to end the ongoing conflicts in Myanmar.
He mentioned that he believes that, as we all, including the leaders of EAOs, are ethnic brothers born in Myanmar, we can collaborate and unite, embodying the spirit of Myanmar.
He likewise mentioned that the elections are scheduled for December and urged the public to work together to ensure the elections are successfully finished.
He further stated that the military council will initiate reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the areas affected by the earthquake as soon as feasible.
