The European Union (EU) declared on the evening of April 7 that it will allocate an extra 10 million euros for earthquake assistance in Myanmar.
The European Commission has allocated an extra €10 million in humanitarian assistance following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar and its neighboring areas on March 28, as stated.
The financial support will aid in family tracing and reunification, encompassing emergency housing, healthcare, clean water, and sanitation services.
On April 5, the EU declared that it is allocating six million euros via partners operating on-site to assist communities in all regions impacted by the earthquake.
Likewise, the EU has allocated €3 million in humanitarian assistance to meet pressing needs right after the earthquake.
"This represents a portion of the €46 million allocated for humanitarian aid in 2025," the statement indicated.
Hajja Lafite, the European Commissioner for Preparedness, Emergency Management, and Equality, stated, "The European Union remains steadfastly supportive of the people of Myanmar following this devastating earthquake."
"We are focusing on and guaranteeing that humanitarian aid gets to those who need it most as swiftly as possible. We once again urge all relevant parties to permit unimpeded access for humanitarian groups to guarantee the secure and efficient provision of life-saving aid," the EU statement emphasized.
A group of 12 European specialists and two EU liaison officers are currently on-site to improve collaboration with humanitarian partners.
