According to reports, 23 fishermen from Pauktaw Township in Rakhine State were kidnapped by the junta navy while they were at sea fishing with 3 boats.
According to a local resident, Arakan Princess Media (APM) reported that they were taken by junta navy while fishing at sea close to Myay Ngu Island, Pauktaw Township, around 8am on April 5.
The detained individuals include U Maung Nyunt, U Maung Nyunt, U Min Thant Oo, U Shin Chey, U Kyaw Than, Ma Nyin, Numar, Saw Mi, Ba Maung, Bo Chey Ram Mauk, Rophi, Hla Chey, Mar Mauk, Adu Khlai, Marmaut Rochay, Adidu, Sori, Dollar, Haidulami, Albadu, Aofay, Editi, and Ankamla.
The detained Rakhine individuals are reported to be from Sintakmaw (Tawtan) village, while the Muslims hail from Sintakmaw village in Pauk Taw Township, located 20 miles east of the state capital, Sittwe.
The reason for the arrest of these fishermen by the military council navy remains unclear.
Nevertheless, the military council has prohibited Rakhine fishermen from venturing out to sea for fishing since the renewal of hostilities on November 13, 2023.
The military council navy transported the apprehended individuals and their fishing boats to Kyaukphyu.
