During an operation in Maungdaw township near the Bangladesh border, the Arakan Army (AA) killed a member of the ARSA terrorist group and seized two guns along with some ammunition.

A regional military source reported, “On April 4, at 12:48 PM, ARSA militants entered from Bangladesh and approached the village of Labawa in Maungdaw Township, where the Arakan army pursued and launched an attack on the ARSA members, resulting in one ARSA member's death and the confiscation of two guns and ammunition, while the remaining ARSA members fled.”

The confrontation occurred approximately 1200 meters northwest of Labawa village, located in northern Maungdaw Township.

As per reliable sources of AA, three ARSA fighters armed with weapons crossed over to the Myanmar side. AA began to battle, prompting the other two to drop their weapons and escape. AA discovered a member of ARSA on the ground, fatally wounded by gunfire.

In addition to the body of an ARSA militant, who sustained a chest wound, the AA also captured two G-3 rifles, magazine clips, and various rounds of ammunition, including cartridges, from the military junta, he stated.

The Arakan Army has halted and assaulted the retreating ARSA militants.

The ARSA militant groups, equipped with weapons backed by the military council, have sought refuge in Bangladesh near the Rakhine-Bangladesh border, infiltrating Rakhine State and persistently engaging in violent activities, such as arresting, killing, raping, robbing, extorting, abducting, and openly intimidating the inhabitants of the Rakhine area by sharing videos online.

According to regional military observers, the danger posed by armed Islamic extremist groups like ARSA, RSO, and ARA has become alarming, jeopardizing regional stability, peace, and public safety in Rakhine State and affecting civilians on both sides of the Bangladesh-Rakhine border, as well as the broader ASEAN region.
