A man had his right leg amputated after stepping on a landmine in Kyeintali town, Gwa Township, the southernmost township in Rakhine State, near Ayawaddy division.

The individual who triggered the mine was U Htun Lin Aung (also known as Nga Pe), age 30.

He lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine deployed by the military council during wartime in the region. He encountered the tragedy while searching for vegetables on the mountain around noon on April 3, as reported by the Gwa Township War IDP Assistance Joint Group.

"He was swiftly taken to the hospital following the incident. His right leg was removed, and his left thigh was also harmed. He is currently in a stable state," stated Ko Phyo Paing Soe, the group's chairman.

On March 30, U Zaw Win Aung, 47, from Sar Chet village, was ascending a hill to search for vegetables when he triggered a mine, resulting in the amputation of his left leg.

Likewise, on March 15, a 40-year-old individual from Gwa Township sustained a severe injury to his left leg after triggering a mine.

As of yesterday, the Gwa Township IDP Assistance Joint Team reported that landmines had injured 10 individuals in Gwa Township.
