On Wednesday, the Military Council declared a temporary ceasefire across the country lasting 20 days.
The period of ceasefire will be from April 2 to April 22, as stated by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the junta.
The announcement states, "In compassion and recognition of the individuals across the country impacted by the earthquake, to accelerate relief and rebuilding efforts, and to uphold peace and stability, the Tatmadaw announces a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to 22, 2025."
The Military Council has announced a 20-day ceasefire; however, the statement indicates that the Tamadaw (Junta) will respond if ethnic armed groups and other armed factions mobilize, organize, or enlarge their areas.
The military council's statement additionally noted that it would implement countermeasures if there are disruptions to or harm inflicted on public transportation, if civilian lives are endangered, or if military bases and headquarters are attacked.
The military council declared a temporary ceasefire 6 days following a strong earthquake that shook Myanmar.
