French duo killed in strong Myanmar earthquake

A French couple has also died in a powerful earthquake in Myanmar, French news agency Les Francais Press reported on March 31.

The deceased French couple has been identified as Bertrand Leover and Carole Leover, although their ages remain undisclosed.

The report mentioned that the pair was having lunch at a Nay Pyi Taw restaurant on March 28 when a structure collapsed due to the intense earthquake.

The report mentioned, citing relatives, that the couple often travels abroad during school vacations, with Asia as their favored location.

Bertrand Leover has a degree in business and runs a tech company. His partner, Carole Louver, was also a city council member and holds a degree in history and geography, having worked for French television.

The bodies of the two individuals are currently in the morgue, and the French embassy has requested their repatriation, but the military council has refused this appeal.

On March 28, at 12:51 PM. At Myanmar time, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar, located around 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay.

The earthquake was felt most strongly in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago Region, and northeastern Shan State.

The earthquake devastated buildings and constructions, including temples, churches, and schools, as well as roads and bridges.

Today, April 1, the military council reported that fatalities had surpassed 2,000 and that tens of thousands of people had been injured as of this morning.
