Junta Airstrikes Target Aung Phyu Pyin Village in Ponnagyun, Killing 5 Displaced Persons, Injuring 12, Including 4 Children Under 10

An airstrike by the Myanmar junta on Aung Phyu Pyin village in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, recently killed five displaced individuals and injured 12 others, among them four children under ten, according to local sources.

The identified deceased victims were U Than Maung (53), his spouse Daw Ma Yae (45), and their son Maung Thet Kyaw (19), all hailing from Leik Kone Pyin ward in Ponnagyun Town. The fourth and five victim were Ko Ye Lin Soe (25), a resident of Yoe Ta Yoke village in Ponnagyun Township, who owned a phone shop in Aung Phyu Pyin village and Ma Aye Myat Wai (15) from Aung Phyu Pyin village

The wounded children were recognized as Ma Shwe Yi Win (2) and Maung Myo Myat Kyaw (6) from Ponnagyun Town, along with Maung Bo Naing Nyein (3) and Ma Oo San May (9) from Tan Khoe village.

The remaining wounded persons included Ma Mi Moe Chey (23), Daw Hla Hla Yee (53), Ma Phyu Phyu Kyaw (19), Ko Saw Naing Than (29), Ko Hla Myint Shwe (27), and Ma Soe Soe Hlaing (25), all hailing from Ponnagyun Town. Furthermore, Daw Oo Hla Nu (48) along with Ma San Yi (30) from Tan Khoe village, sustained injuries as well.

A nearby source who was at the location remarked, "A few of the wounded are in critical condition."

The airstrikes occurred at approximately 7:00 pm on March 25, when a 500-pound bomb was released by a junta fighter jet on Aung Phyu Pyin village.

The explosion occurred on a hillside close to a monastery in the village.

The monastery, accommodating more than 120 displaced individuals from Ponnagyun Town and nearby regions, was among the sites impacted by the explosion.

The bombing resulted in casualties among the displaced population and also damaged multiple temples, schools, and a nearby house
