A woman sustained severe injuries after treading on an unexploded landmine in Minbya, Arakan State.

The victim, Daw San Win May, 43, lives in Tha Pyay Nyo Ward, Minbya Township.

Local residents reported that she triggered the landmine at approximately 3:00 pm on March 19 while ascending the Kyein Taung ridge, close to Minbya Town, to gather Marian plums. The region is recognized for having junta troops positioned close by

The blast amputated Daw San Win May's left leg beneath the ankle, and she is now undergoing emergency medical care.

On February 26, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) completely seized control of Minbya Township.

Local inhabitants have cautioned that increased vigilance is essential in townships governed by the AA in Arakan State because of the existence of landmines and unexploded ordnance.

A woman from the area stated, “We need to absolutely prohibit individuals from accessing regions that haven't been cleared of landmines. If not, they will head there. Despite the warning signs, residents ought to avoid the area. Individuals with more knowledge ought to teach the community.”

Earlier, on March 4, an explosive device placed on the rooftop of U Ye Naing Soe's home in the Shwe Min Gan area of Zay Haung Pine ward, Minbya Town, detonated, injuring 14-year-old Maung Aung Min Htay, who lives in the same ward.
