A teenager died and four others got hurt while tampering with an unexploded bomb in Min Thar Taung village, Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State.
A local resident reported that five teenagers from Min Thar Taung village found a 40-mm grenade while fishing with nets in a creek close to the village at 4:00 PM on March 19. They tampered with the grenade prior to throwing it into a bonfire, resulting in the explosion.
"Yesterday, while fishing with a net at Min Thar Taung creek, the teenagers discovered a grenade. They toyed with it, and when it didn't detonate, they put it in the flames. The fire's heat made it explode," the resident stated.
The blast immediately took the life of one teenager, while four others suffered severe injuries and are currently undergoing medical care.
The names of the deceased and the injured individuals are not yet known.
Min Thar Taung village is located in the Tha Ri creek area and houses over 700 families.
Even though there was no combat close to the village, a local theorized that the bomb might have been transported by Tha Ri creek during the conflict near the 376th Light Infantry Battalion (Daung Taw Yoe).
On February 12, a bomb found near Sun Ye village detonated while being tampered with, resulting in the deaths of two young men and injuring four others from Gyin Dway village in Pauktaw Township.
