On March 6, the Chaung U People's Defence Force released a statement indicating that on March 4, fighting occurred between the combined resistance forces and junta soldiers along the Monywa-Mandalay highway in the Sagaing Region. The clashes led to the deaths of 17 junta troops, among them a second lieutenant, and the destruction of two military vehicles by fire.
The assault is said to have taken place at 3:10 pm on March 4, at a location along the Monywa-Mandalay highway.
“Joint resistance forces ambushed two armored vehicles departing from Monywa on the Monywa-Mandalay highway as they were on their way to Myinmu via Chaung U town,” the Chaung U People’s Defence Force reported.
During the assault, 17 soldiers from the junta, comprising a second lieutenant, lost their lives. Furthermore, two armored vehicles, four MA 1 rifles, one MA 3 rifle, three MA 11 rifles, one G 3 rifle, one G 1 rifle, one 60 mm mortar, one Lala, and 22 boxes of different magazines were taken.
One member of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) sustained minor injuries in the battle.
In the course of the conflict, military junta bases in Chaung U Town, the Site Kwin Office, and Mya Pearl discharged 106 rounds of 120-mm artillery. Moreover, the Northwestern Command carried out two airstrikes utilizing powered parachutes.
The assault was executed collaboratively by the Chaung U People's Defence Force (CHU-PDF), the Union Liberation Front (ULF) column of the Yin Mar Bin Local People's Defence Force, B21 Battalion, Yadanarbon, Chindwin Brother, Bandula Defence Force (Budalin), Three Brothers Force (Kani), Special Force 11, Immortal Guerrilla Force, and the Sagaing District Drone Team (SDDT).
The Chaung U People's Defence Force also mentioned that SRC (Spring Revolution Clinic) offered medical support, whereas Yin Myit carried out aerial surveillance.
