The Arakan Army (AA) has sealed off government offices and the residences of cronies engaged in business with the junta in Maungdaw, a town located on the western border of Arakan State.
A Maungdaw resident mentioned that the sealed areas comprised not only the residences of Muslim and Arakanese entrepreneurs but also important government buildings.
"It isn't only Muslim residences that are being sealed off. We also observed Arakanese houses, in addition to the homes and offices of high-ranking military personnel, being sealed," a local resident stated.
A Muslim elder from Maungdaw clarified that the sealed properties comprise those belonging to junta-affiliated cronies and also those tied to the terrorist organizations.
"We saw the AA isolating residences of both Arakanese and Rohingya Muslim families connected to the military government, in addition to Muslim properties tied to the ARSA terrorist organization," he stated.
Residents also mentioned observing vinyl banners affixed to the homes and previous offices sealed by the AA. The signs stated, “Properties belonging to the Arakan People’s Government (No Trespassing)/by the Arakan People’s Government.”
Currently, more than 30 Arakanese and Muslim residences, along with over 10 junta offices in Maungdaw, have been sealed off by the Arakan Army (AA).
Narinjara News is still in touch with Arakan Army (AA) spokesperson U Khaing Thukha to verify the issue.
