AA Launches Concurrent Assaults on Dhanyawadi Naval Base Outpost and 32nd Police Battalion in Kyaukphyu

The Arakan Army (AA) has carried out coordinated assaults on the 32nd Police Battalion and the Dhanyawadi Naval Base outpost in Kyaukphyu, Arakan State, where significant Chinese projects are located. 

A local military source informed Narinjara News that the AA launched an assault on the 32nd Police Battalion on February 26 in the afternoon, leading to fierce combat. 

"AA launched an assault on the 32nd Police Battalion, and the combat continued from midday until evening. They likewise assaulted the outpost close to the naval base by Si Maw village, where junta troops are deployed. The battles were fierce, as artillery bombardments and drone attacks persisted until nightfall," the source remarked. 

The present circumstances are uncertain, yet the source indicated that approximately 20 soldiers from the junta were taken prisoner. 

A total of 20 soldiers from the junta were taken prisoner during the battle. They belonged to the 32nd Police Battalion and the observation post. The AA also took control of arms. I was informed that a few of those detained were lieutenants," the source mentioned. 

Reports also suggest that certain junta soldiers escaped in chaos amid the combat. 

The source characterized the combat with the 32nd Police Battalion and the junta's position close to Si Maw village as fierce, with the junta employing artillery, small firearms, and drones during their assaults. 

Moreover, numerous local inhabitants have suffered injuries or fatalities due to artillery shells launched from the junta's air force and naval ships. 

Narinjara News has not confirmed the precise count of fatalities and injuries yet. 

On February 20, the AA initiated an assault on a convoy of the 32nd Police Battalion in Kyaukphyu Township, where junta troops were positioned. 

On February 21, the AA persisted in its assault on the Dhanyawadi Naval Base, a major naval installation in Kyaukphyu, with local inhabitants indicating that the clashes grew more intense daily. 

During the conflict on February 21, multiple junta soldiers were hurt and were given medical care at the junta's 32nd Infantry Battalion. 

Starting from the evening of February 22, the junta has persistently bombarded villages close to the naval base with drones, artillery from battalions, naval artillery, and airstrikes. 

The AA has not issued a statement about the current conflict, and AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha has not replied to inquiries from Narinjara News.
