The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) stated that on the morning of February 16, the military junta shipped 936 Muslims from Insein Prison to Sittwe, Arakan State, after they finished serving their sentences.
These people were not initially prisoners at Insein Prison. They were moved from different prisons, assembled at Insein, and then taken by express buses around 6:00 am on February 16.
The PPNM statement affirmed, "As of approximately 6:00 am today, the military and police have released 584 Rohingya men, 267 women, and 67 children—excluding 18 who completed their sentences—from Insein Prison. They will be shipped to Sittwe."
The PPNM also observed that on Saturday, February 15, a holiday, and the day prior to the release, over 50 immigration officials went to Insein Prison to distribute identification cards. The PPNM is presently looking into the reason behind these cards.
As stated by the PPNM, numerous individuals being transferred were detained past their planned release dates. Certain individuals were held for more than a year and a half, even though they had fulfilled their sentences.
