A court in Argentina has released arrest warrants for State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, former President U Htin Kyaw, along with junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and his deputy Soe Win, as reported by VOA.
On February 13, an Argentinian court released arrest warrants for 22 military officials, including junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, ex-President U Htin Kyaw, and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, for crimes committed against the Rohingya in 2017, as reported by VOA, citing the Burmese Rohingya Organization UK (BROUK).
"This is a significant milestone for justice for the Rohingya and all those in Myanmar enduring hardships under the Myanmar military," stated Tun Khin, President of BROUK.
The UK-based Burmese Rohingya Organization (BROUK) spearheaded the case in Argentina, as stated in a social media update by U Aung Myo Min, the Minister of Human Rights for the National Unity Government (NUG).
It additionally mentioned, "There is positive information concerning universal jurisdiction. An Argentine court has released arrest warrants for multiple officials, including terrorist junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and Soe Win, related to the genocide of the Rohingya."
