A leftover bomb detonated in Shwe Zar Gone Nar (Muslim) village, Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, resulting in the death of one young Muslim man and injuries to four others on the morning of February 10.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Ko Faruh Khan, while the wounded included 23-year-old Ko Maung Myint Naing (who is also referred to as Ko Mahmud Nuh), 30-year-old Ko Mahmud Zu Naing, 18-year-old Ko Mahmud Husong, and Ko Artah Armud, as reported by Arakan Princess Media.
Ko Faruh Khan was enjoying tea with his friends at a nearby tea shop around 10:00 am when he toyed with a leftover bomb he had discovered in the village.
The explosion of the bomb resulted in his instant death. The explosion amputated both of his arms and inflicted serious damage to his legs.
The other four people who were sitting beside him were also hurt by shrapnel from the blast.
Shwe Zar Gone Nar is a village that was once occupied by junta troops. It is often impacted by explosions from landmines and leftover explosive materials from the war.
In a comparable event, at approximately noon on February 9, 6-year-old Maung Nay Soe was playing with an unexploded bomb close to a creek bank in Thein Taung ward, Taungup Town. The bomb, which did not detonate during the battle, exploded when it dropped from his grip, causing him injury.
On February 3, a leftover bomb detonated in Taing Kyoe village, Gwa Township, as two children were playing. The blast resulted in the deaths of a 5-year-old boy, a 20-year-old girl, and her father, 40-year-old Ko Gwa Toh, while another child and an adult were injured.
On January 18, a child from Kin Pon village close to Kan Thar Yar beach in Gwa Township tragically passed away after interacting with an unexploded bomb.
