On the evening of February 6, a woman in Taungup Town, Arakan State, lost her leg by stepping on a landmine.
Daw Khin Myo Chey (51), hailing from Kan Paing Ward in Taungup Township, is the woman who lost a leg after stepping on a landmine.
According to Arakan Princess Media, she sustained injuries after stepping on a landmine at approximately 3:00 p.m. on February 6 while gathering firewood close to the 346th Light Infantry Battalion, where junta soldiers were located.
Daw Khin Myo Chey's left leg was amputated, and her right leg sustained serious injuries from the landmine blast. She is currently undergoing medical care.
Recently, landmines and other explosive remnants of war have resulted in casualties in Arakan State.
In a separate occurrence, a Muslim child and a young Muslim man both had a leg amputated after treading on landmines set by junta forces in their home located in Shwe Zar Gone Nar (Muslim) village, Maungdaw Township, on January 29 and February 5.
On February 3, a leftover bomb detonated in Gwa Township while individuals were playing, resulting in the deaths of three people, including a 5-year-old, and wounding three more.
On January 22, Daw Phyu Ma Chey (38) from Aung Mingalar Ward in Mrauk-U Township lost her life after stepping on a landmine while gathering firewood close to the 377th and 378th Light Infantry Battalions, where junta troops were positioned.
Likewise, on January 18, a young boy in Kin Pon Village close to Kan Thar Yar Beach in Gwa Township lost his life after interacting with an unexploded bomb.
